Here at JK Arms we stick to our main goal of ensuring that all people in the greater Masaka region secure adequate nutritional food supply in a “sustainable” manner especially vulnerable families in addition to creating a self-reliant generation among the youth. JK Arms for charity foundation through its self-reliance programs introduces the garden tower project (KYENGERA TOWERS). The project was introduced by Peter following the need to provide a sustainable food supply to families. Families are provided with seedlings to grow their own food like kale, spinach and other nutritious crops. The towers provide nutritious food quickly and continuously to as one tower can provides 5-8 meals a week. We believe that the towers are worth considering that we are working with less privileged people since do not require any soil, you can grow anywhere depending on the plants you have in addition to saving money quickly.
As families progress in the garden towers, they can earn the next level which is micro chicken enterprise where five laying hens and a roster are provided to a single family. Through this, they are able to start a small business of raising chicken and selling eggs in the local markets as their chicken coops grow.
And finally, a pregnant goat is given to the family after they have shown that they are willing to work with us in our self-reliance program. They are be able to sell the milk, and within 18 months to 2 years in our program, they are able to rise above extreme poverty.
NB: We breed goats at our training centers to donate to families in the local communities
